January 23, 2007 - It's Summer in Mendoza! The trees are vibrant and the vineyards are vast seas of green velvet. The streets of Mendoza are bustling with activity, with sidewalk cafes overflowing with tourists and locals alike, everyone sharing the beautiful sunny weather, which is one of Mendoza's trademarks, along with wine of course. The weather now is ideal for all outdoor activities, including catching rays by your favorite pool. Day time temperatures are in the upper 80s(F), with night time temps in the low 70s(F).Mendoza enjoyed a fabulous harvest season--March through April 2006--with excellent weather, lots of sunshine, and ideal conditions for the harvest. All the winery people are very excited about the harvest results, with grape quality above expectations, and those expectations were high. At Postales del Plata, we are particularly pleased because we had our first harvest ever from our Valle de Uco Malbec vineyards. Our grapes have gone through the fermentation process and our young Malbec wine is bottled and ready to drink. Actually, we've been drinking it for over a month, and its available at our lodges. We invite you to share a bottle with us.
OK, so we can't rest on our laurels, and with that in mind, we have planted an additional 20 hectares of Malbec grapes in September 2006, and those vineyards are now growing como loco, with some of the vines more than three feet tall. All outdoor activities are in full swing with excellent rafting on the Rio Mendoza, and delightful horseback riding at Estancia El Puesto. We look forward to seeing you Mendoza this summer.

Vaya chicos....Summer is a bustling time. The weather is perfect for a drive in the country, a hike in the foothills, a horseback ride into the Andes. The sidewalk cafes in the city and in Chacras are alive with couples, friends, and families gathering to discuss the exciting things happening around the Province. In the city, construction is booming...with 5 major new hotels under way (including a new Sheraton and a new Park Suites), and three large condo projects in development. The new Executive Tower Hotel on Plaza Italia is now open. There is an equal amount of new development in the suburbs and countryside with new restaurants opening, new wineries being built, and many new businesses planning to open this summer. If you are thinking about a trip to Mendoza this summer, from January through March, you need to start planning now as things are already booked for the more prime dates. This year, Vindimia, the annual wine harvest extravaganza (really a week long all-out party with wine, food, parades, and nightly events), is February 28 to March 4. If you don't have your reservations now, give us a call as there are very few openings anywhere (we still have a few choice tickets to the big event Saturday March 3, but they won't last long, and are only available to Postales lodge guests.). Wine Tastings at Chacras de Coria Lodge - This has become a popular event by reservation only....this summer we have begun the biweekly tasting with top wineries and it will continue through the fall season. In the coming weeks we are scheduling Lagarde, Altas Tierras, Catena, Fournier, Lurton, Benegas, Familia Zuccardi, Familia Reina/ Andeluna, Hacienda del Plata, and more. Selected from vineyards over 60 years old, the wine is aged in new French oak for 12 months. Postales del Plata Wine Country Lodges
Our classic wine country lodge is centrally located in Valle de Uco, about a ten minute drive west of the town of Tunuyan. This exclusive fifteen-acre property encompasses 7.5 acres of Malbec vineyards, tree-lined paths flanked by small streams, gardens and fruit orchards, and breathtaking views of the snow-capped Andes. This is the ultimate country retreat...a special place to relax in style while exploring the most desirable areas of the Mendoza Wine Country. 90 kilometers south of Mendoza City, an hour and fifteen minute drive from the international airport, and three hours from the Las Lenas Ski Resort. We often have special wine tasting events featuring different wineries, and live music on the weekends. We invite you to treat yourself to a cozy weekend getaway. Chacras de Coria Lodge is nestled in the heart of Chacras de Coria, an upscale country suburb of Mendoza City. This area is the center of the original wine country and a five to fifteen minute drive from the major wineries of Maipu, La Corrodilla, and Lujan de Cuyo This Mediterranean-style inn has seven suites in three buildings, six individual suites with private baths, and one unit that is a two bedroom/one bath suite with a sitting room for guests who require more space, or for families with children. The lodge is a charming remodeled home that features a wine bar, living/gathering room, dining room, covered verandas, and guest services office. A manager and concierge are on duty to attend guest needs and to arrange any activity--everything from city tours, to shopping excursions, skiing, horseback riding, and in-room massages. Our wine hosts and hostesses meet guests here each day for daily activities and winery visits, and return them here at the end of the day, or escort them to dinner or other activities, depending on the itinerary chosen.
